Hello. Let's talk about spine alignment.

Most of us think that when we stand up we align our spines naturally, that we are even on either side of the plumb line. But the truth is, most of us don't stand like that.

Normally,  in daily life, we like slouch on the couch, we work one leg more when driving, we might relax and sit into one elbow ... your spine is continually moving in and out of alignment. And after weeks, month and years of these movements you can start to lose awareness of where your spine alignment should be.

Things like, if you often stand with one foot turned out, and that's your favourite relaxed standing position, your hips will twist in the direction of your foot. And typically your foot twists a little bit. So if that's your natural position and you stand like that often, one side of your back will get tighter and the other 'on holidays'.

When you start to do exercises, any sort of exercises but particularly core muscles exercises, you are going to be tighter on one side and looser on the other.

Unless you consciously know that and work on it, you are going to continue to tighten the tighter muscles and the looser muscles won't strengthen. You will be training your muscles to maintain this misalignment.
